Litigation Attorney — Business & Contract Disputes (Contract) — Remote — Central Virginia
Alden Kinsley, an independent, attorney-owned litigation and dispute resolution firm, is a fully distributed (virtual-office) practice seeking an exceptional litigation attorney for contract, overflow work in Central Virginia — the Richmond, Charlottesville, and Lynchburg region. The work is business and commercial disputes: contract disputes, breach of contract, and related commercial litigation. You take matters end to end — strategy, drafting, motion practice, negotiation, and court appearances — on an as-needed basis that flexes with the firm's docket. No billable-hour targets and no office overhead: the firm's platform handles operations, so your time is spent purely on the practice of law.
Responsibilities:
- Handle business and commercial disputes — contract disputes, breach of contract, and related commercial litigation — from evaluation through resolution
- Develop case strategy and counsel clients on risk, exposure, and resolution paths
- Draft pleadings, dispositive motions, discovery, and settlement agreements
- Conduct depositions, negotiate with opposing counsel, and appear in Central Virginia state and federal courts — Richmond, Charlottesville, and Lynchburg areas
- Take overflow matters as needed, managing your own docket and deadlines independently in a fully distributed practice
Qualifications:
- Active admission to the Virginia State Bar and in good standing
- Professional liability (malpractice) insurance in force, or ability to obtain coverage before engagement
- Substantial litigation experience with a focus on business, commercial, or contract disputes
- Demonstrated first-chair or lead-attorney experience handling matters end to end
- Able to appear in person in Central Virginia courts (Richmond, Charlottesville, and Lynchburg region) as matters require
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and courtroom skills
- Proficiency with legal research platforms, including AI-powered tools (Thomson Reuters CoCounsel, Anthropic Claude, or similar), with the judgment to verify every output
- Self-directed in a virtual-office environment; able to manage multiple matters and deadlines independently
Compensation: Approximately $200 per hour, commensurate with experience. This is an independent-contractor (1099) engagement for overflow work as needed — matter volume flexes with the firm's docket — in a fully distributed, virtual-office practice.
