Litigation Attorney (Contract) — Virginia
An independent, attorney-owned firm in the Relevant Law network is seeking a litigation attorney, on an independent-contractor (1099) basis, to handle civil matters across Virginia. You take matters end to end — strategy, drafting, motion practice, discovery, negotiation, and court appearances — in a modern, remote-first practice. The firm's platform handles operations and administration, so your time is spent on the practice of law, not on overhead.
Responsibilities:
- Handle civil litigation matters from evaluation through resolution
- Develop case strategy and counsel clients on risk, exposure, and resolution paths
- Draft pleadings, dispositive motions, discovery, and settlement agreements
- Conduct depositions, negotiate with opposing counsel, and appear in Virginia state and federal courts as matters require
- Manage your own docket and deadlines independently in a distributed practice
Qualifications:
- Active admission to the Virginia State Bar and in good standing
- Professional liability (malpractice) insurance covering the engagement, or the ability to obtain coverage before beginning work
- Substantial litigation experience in Virginia state and federal courts
- Demonstrated experience handling matters end to end, from intake through trial or resolution
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and courtroom skills
- Proficiency with legal research platforms, including AI-powered tools, with the judgment to verify every output
- Self-directed in a remote-first environment; able to manage multiple matters and deadlines independently
Compensation: $150–$225 per hour, commensurate with experience. This is an independent-contractor (1099) engagement in a remote-first, distributed practice.
